# Research and veterinary guidance

> Peptide for Pups: studies and drug guidance — The Peptide for Pups reading list: the Golden Retriever trial, beagle experiments, glucagon cases and veterinary drug guidance behind these pages.

**Reading list**

The papers and official guidance sit together here, with their different jobs intact.

## Canine study populations

The first paper to open is [Dik and colleagues' senior Golden Retriever study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40436366/), followed by the [BPC-157 safety evaluation](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32334036/) alongside the [rat and beagle blood-level paper](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36588717/). The [glucagon case series](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32655157/) changes the setting to dogs receiving hospital care.

The [BPC-157 development review](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42198317/) and the [PubMed searches recorded on September 30, 2026](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) support the bounded statement that no pet treatment study was found. That search date matters: I would revise the statement if a relevant paper were identified.

## Drug guidance and dates

The [FDA explanation of animal-drug development](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/animal-health-literacy/idea-marketplace-journey-animal-drug-through-approval-process), [animal-drug questions](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/safety-health/frequently-asked-questions-about-animal-drugs) and [federal extra-label rule](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-21/chapter-I/subchapter-E/part-530) supply the veterinary context. FDA also explains its [concerns about unapproved animal drugs](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/unapproved-animal-drugs/fdas-concerns-about-unapproved-animal-drugs) and [how to report a suspected problem](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/report-problem/how-report-animal-drug-and-device-side-effects-and-product-problems).

The regulatory records used here were checked on September 30, 2026. That is the date of the check, rather than a date on which any new rule took effect. The [animal-drug database](https://animaldrugsatfda.fda.gov/adafda/views/#/search) remains a record whose contents can change.

At Peptide for Pups I follow the dogs enrolled in published research; these pages offer no medical advice, and care for an actual animal rests with its veterinarian.
